The fusion (pun intended) of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques like image processing and synthetic data into the detection and mitigation of plasma “blobs” can make fusion reactors safer and more economically viable.
One thing they didn’t suggest was to use the magnets to extract energy from the blobs, through magnetic induction of electric current — like a hybrid car charging its batteries when you brake, and avoid the entire heat to steam turbine conversion process which has not yet been fully engineered.
